Private Further Education and Training Colleges

Purpose: Regulate and support private colleges as a means of expanding the institutional base for providing quality post school education and training opportunities.

Functions: Developing and implementing the legal framework for regulating the provision of Private Further Education and Training.

Keeping the public informed about matters relating to the regulation of private colleges. Monitoring registered Private  colleges for compliance with the legal framework. Liasing and consulting with SAQA, Umalusi and other ETQA’s on matters relating to the registration of qualifications on the NQF as well as quality assurance and quality promotion in the FET sector. Publishing at regular intervals a register of registered private Further Education and Training colleges. Maintaining an Information Management System for the private  sector in order to advise the Registrar on the size and shape of the FET sector and the extent to which it contributes to the human resources development needs of the country.

FURTHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING ACT NO. 98 OF 1998

To regulate further education and training, to provide for the establishment , governance and funding of public further education and training institutions, to provide for the registration of private further education and training institutions, to provide for quality assurance and quality promotion in further education and training, to provide for transitional arrangements and repeal of laws.
