Course Description
This course provides guidelines on the cleaning and disinfection of surfaces including, but not limited to offices and workplaces, stairs, passages, foyers, entrances inside and outside (high touch points), lifts, fire escapes, toilet facilities, open plan areas, cloakrooms, sick bays, meeting rooms, training rooms, rest rooms, basement and garage areas, workshop areas, internal windows and glass doors, etc. in addition to vehicles, tools and mobile plants. Follow these guidelines, especially in areas reporting COVID-19.
This course also aims to provide guidance on the principles, procedures and equipment for effective cleaning, and the proper use of detergents and disinfectants.
These guidelines are mainly focused on non-healthcare facilities such as offices, workplaces and areas frequented by the general public (walk-in centres), reception areas, etc. All reference to personal protective equipment (PPE) and health and safety procedures are based on best practice in addition to current requirements legislated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993.
The infection prevention and control principles designed to mitigate the spread of pathogens in health-care settings, including cleaning and disinfection practices, have been adapted in this guidance document so that they can be applied in non-health care setting environments.
